Golden Diners program provides friendship and food to local seniors

Salvation Army Golden Diners for Seniors 60 and up.

Golden Diner Centers serve nutritious home-style meals Monday, Tuesday and Thursday to individuals age 60 and over and their spouses, regardless of age. Dining centers give older adults an opportunity to meet new people, enjoy conversation, play games and just have fun. Monday and Thursday before the meal, beginning at 10AM, seniors enjoy free bingo. Everyone can be as active or reserved as they want to be.

The intent is to offer seniors who are able to dine out a low cost meal, and an opportunity to socialize and stay active. Studies have shown that seniors who stay active and social are able to live independantly for longer.

Also, volunteers deliver hot, nutritious meals to older adults who are homebound and unable to take part in the Center programs. Around 280 seniors in the Elgin area received home delivered meals Monday through Friday. Download a flier about the Golden Diner Program.
