Become a Literacy Tutor

The Literacy Connection

The Literacy Connection needs volunteers to tutor adults in Basic Literacy and English as a Second Language (ESL). If you are at least 18 years old, can read, write and speak English, we can train you to become a volunteer literacy tutor. No teaching experience or knowledge of a second language is required, and the time commitment is minimal. Eighteen hours of training is required to become a volunteer literacy tutor. Potential tutors are asked to attend a one and a half hour orientation, followed by 16 1/2 hours of workshop training. Training is offered at different times and locations to allow as much flexibility and accessibility as possible. A small fee of $25 will be charged at the first training workshop to cover materials. Administrative volunteers are also needed for mailings, graphic and web design, community events, event planning, and other special projects. Please contact us at info@elginliteracy.org for more information.
